What is a credit union?
A credit union is a not-for-profit financial cooperative created to serve its members.
- Owned by the people who use it—its members.
- Governed by members through an elected, volunteer Board of Directors.
- Focused on returning value through competitive rates, helpful services, and lower fees.
- Built to serve members rather than generate profits for stockholders.

From a desk drawer to a nine-county community
Arize has grown through the shared belief that financial services should make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.
Huntingdon roots begin
Fiberglas Huntingdon Federal Credit Union was chartered by employees of Owens-Corning Fiberglas. It later became Huntingdon County Federal Credit Union after merging with Standing Stone Federal Credit Union.
SPE Credit Union is founded
Eight individuals each contributed $10 to establish the credit union for HRB Singer employees. Operations began with a lockbox in a desk drawer and soon expanded into a converted office closet.
New branches and a broader community
SPE opened an East College Avenue branch, became a community-chartered credit union for Centre County, and expanded into Huntingdon County. On July 1, 2011, Huntingdon County Federal Credit Union merged with SPE.
A new Huntingdon home
A solar-powered office opened on Shaner Boulevard, including a community room available to local organizations at no cost.
SPE becomes Arize
The new name reflected a broader community, a modern financial organization, and our commitment to helping people rise to everyday financial challenges.
